ASTM F1554 is a standard specification for anchor bolts that are designed to be used in structural applications. These bolts are typically used to secure steel structures to concrete or masonry foundations. The F1554 specification covers three grades of anchor bolts: Grade 36, Grade 55, and Grade 105.

Grade 36 anchor bolts are made from low carbon steel and are commonly used in light-duty applications such as residential construction. Grade 55 anchor bolts are made from medium carbon steel and are used in more demanding applications such as commercial or industrial construction. Grade 105 anchor bolts are made from heat-treated medium carbon alloy steel and are used in the most demanding applications such as high-rise buildings or bridges.

F1554 Grade 36 formerly known as ASTM A307 grade C, is the most commonly requested material for anchor bolts. F1554 Grade 36 is manufactured from mild carbon steel. F1554 Grade 36 is essentially A36 material, but with the specifications written specifically by ASTM for anchor bolts. Just as with grade 36, grade 55 covers anchor bolts in diameters ranging from 1/2″ through 4″.
